Feedback Based Real-Time Fault Tolerance – Issues and Possible Solutions
نویسندگان
چکیده
Fault tolerance is an important aspect in realtime computing. In real-time systems, tasks could be faulty due to various causes. Faulty tasks may compromise the safety and performance of the whole system and even cause disastrous consequences. In this paper, we study the possibilities of applying feedback control of software execution to real-time systems for fault tolerance purposes. A new fault tolerance architecture called ORTGA (On-demand Real-Time GuArd) is proposed. We argue the advantages and benefits of using ORTGA for fault tolerance in real-time systems. We also list research problems faced by ORTGA and point out directions for possible solutions.

Fault Tolerance Issues in Real Time Systems with Energy Minimization
Real time systems are very frequently systems used in today scenario. All real time systems should be efficient and generate appropriate result even though there is fault in the system. Fault is very basic to occur in a system. As most of these systems work in fault prone environment, a task running in these systems should be finished on its deadline. Fault tolerance is the technique to give th...
متن کاملA New Hierarchical Fault Management System (HFMS) of Mobile-Multi Agents
Mobile Agent technology has become a new paradigm for distributed real-time systems because of their inherent advantages. In any distributed system, along with other issues, survivability and fault tolerance are vital issues for deploying Mobile Agent for real applications. All Mobile Agent based applications face reliability problems due to the failure of agent platform, host and communication...
متن کاملTask Scheduling Algorithms for Fault Tolerance in Real-time Embedded Systems
We survey scheduling algorithms proposed for tolerating permanent and transient failures in real-time embedded systems. These algorithms attempt to provide low-cost solutions to fault tolerance, graceful performance degradation, and load shedding in such systems by exploiting tradeoffs between space and/or time redundancy, timing accuracy, and quality of service. We place fault-tolerant schedul...
متن کاملTowards Middleware for Fault-Tolerance in Distributed Real-Time and Embedded Systems
Distributed real-time and embedded (DRE) systems often require support for multiple simultaneous quality of service (QoS) properties, such as real-timeliness and fault tolerance, that operate within resource constrained environments. These resource constraints motivate the need for a lightweight middleware infrastructure, while the need for simultaneous QoS properties require the middleware to ...
متن کاملOn the design of behavior-based multi-robot teams
|Real-world applications that are ideal for robotic solutions are very complex and challenging. Many of these applications are set in dynamic environments that require capabilities distributed in functionality, space, or time. These applications, therefore, often require teams of robots to work together cooperatively to successfully address the mission. While much research in recent years has a...
